Who Has Access to Medical Records .

Been To A Hospital Lately ?

I have and it is still the best place to be when you are sick. Surrounded by health care workers and professionals that can act on your behalf. That care for your every need while there. Yes it is a very safe and secure place to be. That is good and we are lucky that we have such a place to care for us. Especially at a time when you need others most.

You may be surprised to note that the R.N.s now sit at computers most of the time. It is most obvious to all that the pen is as important as a thermometer.. It has been for a long time. Records and charts must be kept to continue to give care that is based on good records. So that the treatment team can accurately diagnose and  treat based on documented history of the patient.  RNs now appear like order entry clerks putting in information and getting information. From a technological network that the staff has access to.

The question that remains. Do many others that do not have a right to know, have access to this information? Your health records may be helpful to you in the hospital and doctors office. But it can also become a two edged sword that can slice the other way. Will the accessibility to these records be injurious to you in other ways. Let's face it, the same way identity thieves steal your financial information. They can steal your most personal information.  Why would anyone want that information you may ask . I don't really know. It is just that as we all know, " knowledge is power ".  We will  just have to wait and see? Are the new Obama care mandates good for your individual right of privacy?

The recent scandal involving the IRS has been shown it to be as corrupt as an agency as can be imagined.  Obama acolytes  targeting those that give the policies of the Obama administration a hard time.  Now the IRS will have the ability to get into records that have a direct connection to your health.  To boot, they will also have the ability to share information with other government agencies. Especially when it comes to monetary subsidies.  Or, in the case of deferments.  The IRS has shown in recent weeks they are not to be trusted when it comes to being independent of the administration and politics.

Your medical information can be used against you and will be.  It may affect your ability to get a job.  Or, to join a group or stigmatize you  in society. I don't think that is something anyone would want to worry about. Would you ?
